The art of motherhood

Jennifer Posti paints with a broad brush and her canvasses are large as
life.

Captured in moments of pain or indecision, her female figures reflect and glow in carefully angled light. A mother-to-be, with her massive round belly, throws her head back in a mix of agony and ecstasy as labour washes over her. A woman lies drained and defeated after a miscarriage, draped in purple, her toes clenched from the indignity of medical intervention. A mom leaves for the first day of her job after maternity leave, looking back at a toddler whose whole body asks, “Where are you going?”

Posti’s art, at least currently, is driven by a single theme which she can relate to.

“It has a message and a meaning. What I centre around is the tension and challenges that women face when they want to be a mother as well as have a career,” she explains....
